Trials and Blessings

So I thought we were done with dealing with unemployment but I guess we didn't learn our lesson well enough so we have something else to learn. I hope it isn't a pattern :-) Scott was laid off in 2000 from his job and then in 2005 and now this year 2010! The other two times we were lucky enough to get jobs a month after he was laid off. I hope that holds true but the future is uncertain. I have been thinking a lot since this happened about how ironic it is that he was laid off right before our vacation. This is the first time that we have a planned a big family vacation and the reason we did it is because Kael is 16 and it won't be long before he is out of the house and we really wanted to take a fun family vacation with all us. The only other time Scott has taken so much time off for vacation is two years ago when his Dad died, we were gone for two weeks for his funeral and then we went to Yellowstone. So, anyway, we have been planning this vacation for at least five months. The kids had a countdown chain and I think we started 144 days before the trip! Luckily we have paid for this vacation with our tax money this year and most of it is already taken care of. It has been good to have something to look forward to and I think that if we decided not to go, the kids (and me!) would be devastated. So, anyhow, I am feeling better today. Yesterday I had such a headache from the emotion of the day. Scott came home in the morning and told me that they had dissolved his job. We walked around the park and talked and I cried but it was good to try and get a grip on things and plan for the future. I just wish we could go on vacation with a clear mind. It will always be at the back of my mind, the whole trip, that Scott is out of work. I know that there are many of you out there that have experienced this, maybe even recently, so you know the feelings that we are having right now. On one side there is the uncertainty of the future, the feeling of security that I had is gone and on the other side, I have been overwhelmed with the feeling of love and support of friends and family. The best thing about trials is how they strengthen your faith and they also show you who love and care about you. I know we will get through this and I know that Scott will find a job, I just don't know when. It doesn't make it any easier but it helps. And the thing that has already been helping us through this experience is the love and support from everyone. Thank you so much. Hopefully, next post I will have pictures from our vacation. I know we will have a great time together. Hopefully, we can try not to think about things and just try and enjoy being with each other.

I am so sorry Kari. We will keep you and your family in our prayers.
I hope you will be able to enjoy your time away on this super-duper fun family vacation that you have planned.
You are awesome Kari. You have such a great attitude and I know you have a strong testimony and great faith. Trials are temporary (although very difficult!) but family is forever.
Our prayers are with you.
Have a wonderful trip. I look forward to seeing the pictures. :)

I'm so sorry, that stinks! So true, though, that you find out how much everyone cares and loves you. You will be in our prayers. I'm glad you still are going on your trip!
