Today I am grateful for the many lessons I am learning as a parent. Sometimes I wonder where the manual for parenting is and why don't I have one? Case in point: Sunday, we went to a Fireside to get us excited about the roadshow our ward and another ward is putting on together in about three months. They told us about the main character, a teenage boy, that would be the main character. Right away Kalli told me that is who she wanted to be. Well in my mind, when I look at Kalli, the first thing to come to mind is NOT teenage boy. I mean she fit the part she played very well as six-year-old Molly in the play Annie Westmore did a few months ago but when it comes to typecasting....umm...Kalli really doesn't fit the part in my mind. So anyway, I tried to cushion her from the disappointment that I was sure she was sure to be feeling after auditions but she wouldn't listen. So, finally I said, "Do your best audition and I'm sure you will do well in whatever part you get." So the auditions were tonight and six people auditioned for the part of Jason. Did I mention five of those were 15-17 year old young men and one of those was 12 year old ball of fire Kalli? I think anyone of those Young Men would have done an excellent job but I have no doubt that Kalli will do an energetic, wonderful, awesome job also! By the way, the main character's name is no longer Jason. It's Kalli.
I must also add that I'm equally proud of Kael who doesn't enjoy being in the spotlight but has found his niche helping backstage. I think that this roadshow will be an experience that they both will never forget!
So in case you are wondering the point of this blog, my lesson that I learned is never tell your kids what they can't do because they can accomplish anything they put their mind to. I must also mention that Kalli ended up staying home from school today because she was so sick and weak (she was sick in the night and I never even knew, poor thing). I'm proud of her for getting off her sickbed to be a part of something that was important to her.
