Health Difficulties

So here's the story. If you make it through you should get an award. I had a really busy weekend Aug 5-7 and after church sunday the 7th I just crashed. I had body aches and chills and just didn't feel well.  The rest of the week, I had some abdominal tenderdness but it really wasn't sharp and I just thought I would push through it. The kids had swim lessons, get them read for school, live life right? No time to be sick when you are a mom. And the whole week I didn't feel like eating and I had dropped five pounds. My husband urged me to see the doctor but I silly over such a small thing. Finally Wednesday a.m. I was feeling crappy enough that I picked up the phone and went to see my Family practicitioner. I got my jr. high student registered for school, our van died so my sister gave me a ride to the doctor. She thought I had diverticulitis and sent me to the UVRMC outpatient center where they did a pic in radiology. I had to drink 6 cups of dye in a hour and I hadn't eaten since 11 a.m. that morning. AFter the pics were developed, the doctors could see right away it wasn't anything wrong with my bowels but I had some serious infection by female parts that looked serious. They couldn't quite see it clearly so they sent me to the Emergency Room immediately about 5:30 p.m. and admitted me. We mostly waited for the doctor who had two deliveries (babies have their own schedule!) and so about 11 p..m. he came to talk to me. He couldn't tell if the infection was touching my appendix but just to make sure, he had a general surgeon be there too. So finally at midnight, they wheeled me into the Operating Room to do a Laparscopic surgery...it ended up that I had some drainage one side and a lot of icky infection and it was spreading to my appendix. My appendix was swollen so rather than take any chances, they just took it out. So  I was walking around for 10 days with yucky infection that could have killed me and I'm lucky to be alive. Moral of the story, don't be proud to check something out at the doctor's. It is actually funny that I feel much worse coming out of this than I did going on.  My recoveries from my 5 c-sections were fast and I bounced back like that. This is a trial for me definitely because I want to do everything for everybody and I've got to take care of me first.  I am so grateful for all of my family and friends and neighbors that have just stepped up to help me without asking. This week, the stumbling block will be making myself eat and drink since I really don't feel like it but I know if I keep doing the things I am supposed to, I will mend. It just seems soooo slowwww. And this is a perfect opportunity for my kids to step up and do things (chores) that I know they can do...they just know if they wait long enough mom will come help. well not this time. :-) I will try and be positive and I know that will help.

Wow, Kari. I'm glad you went in when you did and didn't have to experience a ruptured appendix. My mom and brother both had their appendix rupture- not because they didn't get into the doctor in time, but because the doctor didn't think they were sick enough or in enough pain for it to be appendicitis.

Sounds like it has been a miserable experience and I am sorry you feel so crummy and recovery is so slow. I hope you get feeling better really soon! I know it is really difficult to be a mom and be out of commission. But it is a good opportunity for your family to practice service and sacrifice--something you do daily as a mother.
I'm glad you are okay and I hope you will be feeling back to your regular self really soon!

I'm so sorry to hear that you were so sick. I'm glad that they caught it in time and you are on the mend. I think that you will be suprised at how well the kids will step up (for at least a few days anyway.) Get well soon.

thanks everyone. My family has stepped up which has been nice. This has been a hard experience but a growing one. I knew how many people cared about me and my family but it really touches my heart to see service in action. Hopefully, I will be back to my old self soon and I will be able to return the favors. and if this sounds a little whack it's because I'm a little out of whack still ;-)
